That way&lt;BR/&gt;the drive can seek over skipped chucks&lt;BR/&gt;rather than read over them.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;If your chunks are exactly cylinder sized and perfectly aligned you would get close to a factor of 2.
